Ok, so this really isn’t a science question, but it is for something science-y and I didn’t know where else to put it. 😉
I printed out the montessori bird cards to go with our Burgess Bird book study. I want to laminate them, but haven’t broken out my new laminator yet. Can I just laminate the whole sheet and then cut the cards out? Or would it be a much better idea to cut the cards first and try to arrange them in the laminating sheets so they will each have their own border?
You will need to cut the cards first, then laminate, then cut them out again – be sure to leave a little border of lamination around the edges so that the lamination stays sealed to protect your cards and your hard work. =)
It depends. I’ve done it both ways. It is waterproof only if you cut first and then laminate, but sometimes, I need some protection, but not ultra protection and in those cases, I’ve laminated first and then cut. Those items are holding up fine, too.
If your lamination is not the kind that also sticks to the paper when you laminate and then try to cut apart, you will end up having to re-laminate because it peels off. So you might have to experiment with yours. I’ve had both kinds.
When I had them done at at an office supply store, I could just cut once and be fine, but it wasn’t cost effective for me to do that.
