Kon Tiki the movie, based on the book, is now on Netflix! I read this book last year and now am reviewing the movie. I plan on letting my kids watch it this week sometime.
For those who don’t know, Kon Tiki is about several Norweigans who sailed on a raft from Peru to Polynesia to prove that that is how the Polynesian islands came to be settled. Why they have things in common with indigenous people of South America.

My hubby and I just watched it on Netflix a few weeks ago. It was GREAT! Not a thing bad for the kids, so we are definitely putting it on the lineup for them after they read the book. So good!

The story of Thor Heyerdahl and the Kon Tiki is one of the things I remember most vividly from my upper elementary school days. I’ll have to check out the movie.

Honestly, it’s a great family movie. It has a couple of “scary-ish” parts (one guy falls in the water with sharks around, the parrot gets eaten by a shark), but no one dies, no bad language, etc. Really great movie. I wouldn’t mind our 4yo watching it. I think he’d enjoy it, actually.

It has been a few years since this post, but I am wondering if you all were referring to the original Kon Tiki documentary or the new, 2013 Movie? We are finishing up the book, and I would like to watch both the documentary and the new movie with the kids. However, the 2013 movie is rated PG-13, so I am wondering if it would be okay for a 13, 9 and 7 year old.
