We are seriously considering getting each of my older 3 children a Kindle. We have one that is mine but my husband has taken over it since he travels so much. I have a few questions before we take the plunge. First, is there a way to use a coupon like to Staples or anywhere else that sells the Kindle, to save money? Also, how do you manage more than one Kindle and keep everyone’s books separate? Can you list books on more than one Kindle?
I really look forward to your replies. We would like to make a decision this weekend.
I have seen Kindle “special offers” for $114 and $139 on Amazon’s homepage, but I don’t know what the offer entails or if it’s a good deal. However, I just thought I’d bring it to your attention.
The $ 114 Kindles have sponsored ads on them. On the home screen is a bottom banner from a sponsor , for example VISA and the screensaver is an ad by a sponsor. The reading pages do not have advertisement.
You manage the kindles over the function “manage your kindle”. You can give each Kindle a name and when you download a book you can choose if you want it for a specific device or on all. Changes can also be made later through”manage your Kindle”, means books transfered from one kindle to another.
I think we are going to get our 9YO the “special offers” $114 Kindle. I don’t think Staples allows you to use their coupons on Kindles anymore. DH used a coupon when he bought mine at Staples back around Christmas-time, but I think Staples has gotten wise since then.
“So having multiple kindles in one home with separate books on each one is possible? “
I just checked Amazon, and it said that up to SIX Kindles can be registered to your account, so all of those Kindles can receive the same books. (That’s nice to know!)
But you can also load them with different books.
Oh wow, finding that out (about sharing books with other registered devices) is really going to seal the deal for me.
Also, I bought the Yesterday’s Classics books about a month ago, so I can load them onto any Kindle/Nook/Tablet in my house!
We have 5 kindles in our family (one for each of us, except for the baby) and when we purchase a book it can be put on any or all of the kindles. The kids especially like to read on their kindles at night when going to bed (with a book light). While I prefer “real” books…with paper pages…the kindles really do read just like a real book and we are glad we got them.
