I am hoping to purchase either a Kindle Fire or Nook Tablet soon.  I have read every pro and con and all the specs. Dh and I keep going back and forth.  We really want a Kindle Fire that has a Nook Tablet screen (which supposedly is better for book reading).  I know the b&w versions are better on both, but we want the color versions as we hope to use it for school (using artist prints,  illustrated children’s books, and such).

When browsing Amazon, I love how much easier it is to search for free e books and have them added to the kindle app we downloaded to our pc.  And I was finding SO MANY wonderful free books on Amazon that cost on B&N site.  On B&N website the search feature from free nook books has all the decent books scrambled amongst what I consider “R” rated books covers (couldn’t even allow dh to search for a few good books with me!).

So, I want to go with the Kindle Fire, but we really want the best e reader of the two.  If anyone finds the Fire does a fine job as an e reader, please let me know….to save me $50, plus I like shopping at Amazon better than B&N.  Otherwise, I will go with my gut and  get the Nook since over 50% of our use of it will be reading.  I went to Staples to see the 2 side by side, but found out the store crew can’t pull up books on the demo models…the Kindle did seem to have more glare from the main screens they could pull up though.

I received a Kindle Fire for Christmas and love it. Yes, the glare is bad but that goes for any backlit screen to my understanding. I also own a keyboard Kindle with the e-ink display and love that as well for my heavier reading. I use the Fire for web surfing and reading PDF/color  documents. I do read some regular books on it too LOL

One thing to consider is customer service. Amazon has the best customer service by far in my opinion. I had issues with my frist generation Nook (no longer made) with an update once and got nowhere with the customer service area. Major language barrier I believe as she had a very strong accent. With Amazon, I purchased the wrong calendar app for my keyboard Kindle and within 5 minutes I had a full refund. I have heard that Barnes and Noble does not do any refunding on “accidental purchases” or apps that do not work properly. There use to be a FB page for both companies with discussions but that is now gone. It was very informative.

I have also found there is a great deal more free books for the Kindle than the Nook for some reason. I asked why that was a while ago and B&N told me it was because the artwork was still copyrighted and thus they had to charge for it. IF that was the case, why was it free on Amazon….they could not answer that. I use both my Kindles for PDF documents too. My Nook just cannot handle that formatting at all. The Fire handles the PDFs a lot better than the keyboard Kindle though. I am gearing up to get all of the SCM ebooks to go onto my Fire here soon too Wink

BTW, Target also has the Kindle Fire out and I was able to play with all the features on it….well, at least in my area they had one on display. They also had the Nook Color so I was able to compare…but I think I will forever be a Kindle girl now Cool
