Im looking for ideas to keep my boys, ages 9 and 13 busy. Specifically, I’d like them to be using their hands and engaging in something educational. It seems like this it is so much easier for me to come up with ideas for my daughter. (she’s sewing as we speak), but when it comes to my boys, I’ve got nothing. They do have a wood burning kit and they also go out in the garage and mess around with scrap wood. Today I raided my goodwill box and gave them a snow cone machine to take apart and put back together. Anyone have any ideas they’d like to share with me?
I wish when my boys were that age there’d been a Make magazine. GO to the library and check out a few issues! There are terrific projects in there, they tell you how much the components will cost. My kids have made some terrific things!!!! Website is Makezine.com and there is actually a whole online Maker community exploding everywhere right now. My 14yo still loves them. Terrific fun! There are tons of book series on hacking/making topics, too, and even my little library has some.
Love this site, Lindsey. But I hadn’t read that post! Perfect! They’re predicting an unprecedented winter here so I’m looking for ideas for my 10 & 11yo boys.
I had never heard of Make magazine either. I’m behind the times.
WOW this is great. I love the magazine and will have to ask the librarian cause searching the library website got me way confused and overwhelmed LOL BUT my kids would love this magazine.
Do they have an app for the DIY? This looks like a great way to let kids earn some badges I’m going to show it to my dh and maybe we can even have a friendly compitition through winter?? Yeh, right 5 boys – friendly compittion?? Maybe 😉
