I’ve used the first part of Analytical Grammar’s Beyond the Book Report, Season One with a group of 8 kids this month. I’m not impressed. I own Jump In! And am seriously considering a switch for next month. Jump In! Looks very simple to implement one on one at home with my own dd. I’m working how to translate that to our group.
– from my cursory glance, it looks like we could do unit 1 on opinion and then go anywhere from there. Is that correct?
– we have 1 hour per class (3 per month) to cover material together. Given this, what would you consider the best use of our class time?
– I would ask everyone to purchase both the student and teacher books.
– we have 9 more classes before summer break. Kids range from 5-8 grades.
Kind of random and from my phone so excuse mess of a post.
I also own both volumes of Write with the Best. I plan to pull out Jump In and Write with the Best to go over carefully over the weekend. I would love feedback about using either program in a group setting, esp. Also any pros and cons I may have missed on old threads. I know Bookworm likes Jump In and Missingtheshire likes WWtB. Hmm. Any opinions, ladies on which might work best in my situation for the remaining 9 weeks of classes this term and then all of next year?
Actually, I’ve pulled them out and given them a good look see. I’m opting for Jump In for dd12 and simply inviting those who were doing BBR with us to join in if they choose. If not, no worries. I may revisit WWtB in the future.
If anyone has any great tips for using Jump In with a group, please share.
Sorry you haven’t gotten any replies:) I don’t have any great advice off the top of my head. We started w/WWtB but dd didn’t really care for it (though I really liked it). She likes Jump In better, and I like that it’s more independent.
I really don’t know how I’d organize for a co-op…it would take some studied time to figure out what to teach and what to assign. The only thing that comes to mind is that some writing projects have a 5-day suggested writing schedule, and some projects have a 10-day suggested writing schedule. Since you meet 3 weeks in a month, if it’s possible without interrupting flow of program, it might be helpful to schedule the 5-day projects when you only have a week until next meeting, and 10-day projects when you have 2 weeks between classes….
Hopefuly others will chime in:) Blessings, Gina
