Hey y’all! 😉 I’ve been mia for quite a while. I’ve been super duper busy and honestly have strayed from the CM method this school year. I tried to pull things together myself, and now at the end of this year, well, I’m stressed. I’m looking forward to our next school year and have stressed myself even more by trying to figure out what I want to use! I’ll have a 7th grader and a 5th grader. I know we’ll stick with Math U See, and I think my 7th grader needs to go with Apologia General Science, but other than that I’m so confused!
I’ve started an art business that is really keeping me busy and blessing my family financially so time is not something I have a TON of! I need some structure and help with assessing without going all text books. I’ve looked at My Father’s World, AO, and Living Books. These appeal to me because they are “ready to go” and are all CM-ish. However, I don’t think my kids will do well on seperate schedules for all subjects. I want some family subjects but I want a schedule…..any advice?
Thanks in advance and I hope you are all doing well 😉
No advice, but welcome back! I was just thinking about you last week. We started an art co-op and I’ve been teaching the younger kids, hoping to channel actual artists I know and your smiling face popped into my head. Glad to hear from you, Amanda, and congrats on getting your studio going! That’s fantastic (but not a surprise, really)!
If you want some family subjects, CM, and some individual… For history I’d go with one of the SCM History Guides. With their ages, they would have independant readings, but would be all together in history…. and if you are too busy one day they could probably handle the family readings together without you.
Probably many of the other suggestions on the SCM overall guide would be useful.
Welcome back Amanda! I have enjoyed seeing your art on FB. Found your page through the HS church of Christ FB page. I am going to start AO yr1 with my oldest later this year. Blessings on your upcoming year and business.
You’re right. The SCM guide for history just might be where I need to look. I started making a list of which subjects I know the kids will HAVE to split up and the SCM curriculum guide is right on target for me with that.
2flowerboys,
I can share my links to my art pages if the SCM folks don’t mind 😉
Okay y’all here’s my list of subjects and prices. Price is a biggy for me along with some pre scheduled stuff. SCM is more for the money…for sure! I’m also wavering on the Writing With Skill for my daughter.
We are also having issues with attitude in our school. Dad just recently had a “talk” with the kids and things are a bit better, but they both want to just do the least amount of work possible to “just get done”. That has made it almost impossible for me to assess what they really know using narrations (written narrations especially!)
We’ve got some major habit issues when it comes to preseverance and working hard without complaint! Any advice on this is welcome too!
Welcome back! I agree, SCM guides would be great. This is our first yr with the handbook and it was such a blessing to just open and go! Blessings, Gina
