This is what dd5 (kindergarten) has done so far this week. Granted, it’s been a little crazy this week.
Bible stories daily
Language activities: Monday and Tuesday she played Super Why games and played with letter tiles, building words she’s built many times before. Today we looked at word cards and I was able to put 19 in her word book
Played with a dry erase board.
Seasonal poetry
Math activities: Counted a few things, played with felt shapes, played computer games. Played a vegetable match game I made based on a Sid the Science Kid game
Worked on handicrafts
I’m wondering if the language activities are enough. We have not begun formal handwriting instruction b/c although she likes to write and has taught herself to make most of the letters, she doesn’t want my help right now.
Any input is appreciated.

My 5 year old’s week has been very different, but every child is different so that’s ok.
He is doing Handwriting with a Purpose and has done the V page and W page.
He’s done counting activities where he had to count objects and write the number. He had to distinguish between tall and short.
We read a chapter out of the Burgess Bird Book.
We read “How to Make Apple Pie and See the World” and found countries on the map.
We did a page from “The Reading Lesson” and he’s done a couple of pages from his “Explode the Code” book.
We are drawing through the New Testament, so he drew John the Baptist growing up (stick figures) and preaching repentance.
Today is our normal non-school day so they played outside a lot and I did catch up the Burgess book because I had a drs. appointment yesterday and we didn’t get it done.
But, really, at this age so much is just following where they are and what they are ready for. And making learning fun so that they want to keep learning.

Yes, it’s enough!
Mine are 6th, 2nd, 1st, precocious 4yo K-er (doing 2nd grade work a lot because he begs to), and 3 younger boys in the PreK to baby range. I really believe this beginning time is a time to nurture a love of learning and gently introduce them to ‘school routines’ instead of playtime all morning. We still play a lot, but we have periods of time for school-ish activities and they are asked to participate during those. The gentler the better.
With that said my current 4 year old is so thirsty for learning. He taught himself to read at 3 and at about to turn 5 reads on a 3rd grade level easily. Math makes sense to him and he’ll answer problems in his head from his older siblings lessons. I have had to let him go ahead with learning on his pace, even though it’s earlier than I want. My task is to keep it gentle but provide the resources he’s asking for. My older 3 were not like this, one extremely opposite. He didn’t consider learning what a letter was until he was 6. Had zero interest and that was okay too. He just turned 8 this week and is reading on a second grade level, so it all works out. There is no hurry!
