    Hi,

I’ve been looking for a science reader, along the lines of Fabre’s “The Story Book of Science”, but with a bit more of a mature tone.  I have “School of the Woods” by Wiiliam Long, which is just about right, but I’m trying to track down some more.

    Thanks!

I’ve not read The Story Book of Science, but we enjoy the Master Books.. Here is a link to their home page:

And this one will take you directly to their junior high selections:

I don’t know the book you mention – but our library just got a couple of really neat (I think) books by Joy Hakim – The Story of Science – Aristotle Leads the Way – goes thru the 1400’s, and The Story of Science – Newton at the Center – 1500 till now.  (Joy Hakim wrote the History of US series that Sonlight uses in their curriculum.)  If you’re familiar with The History of US you’ll have a good idea what to expect.  These are very similar in tone and style.  They’re basically a historical/chronological journey through the world of science.
