For those of you who have used Science Shepherd Biology, were the lab dvds useful?  They’re $50 and I would rather not buy them if we won’t use them often.  I have already bought the text and lab manual but am waiting on the dvds.

I kind of wondered if we couldn’t youtube some of the labs if we were not able to complete them ourselves

    thanks

    Hi Paula!

Students are encouraged to complete as many of the labs as possible at home either following the instructor on the DVD or independently referring to the DVD when help is needed. The DVD correlates with the included lab manual and shows all the labs being completed by the instructor if the student does not have the means to gather the lab supplies. Students who watch the labs and complete the worksheets in the manual might still be able to obtain credit for a full lab course since the DVD labs cover the steps of each lab activity. The DVD is a narrated PowerPoint presentation rather than video. Hope that helps 🙂

Paula; did you order these? Are they useful? I’m very late in ordering our science for the year.

No, I decided not to order them.  I look over the lab manual and I think we will be able to do them on our own.  Also, one of our state parks has a homeschool day.  Last month, they took the kids in a stream and let them catch benthic invertebrates and then identified them.  I counted that as a lab for her.  I will be picking some of science shepherds labs and choosing more of the state parks “labs”.
