    Hello,

I was wondering if any of you have used Queen’s LL Book 3 to teach your child to read?  My son is currently reading 3-letter words well and enjoys that.  I’d like to keep the reading plan light for him this fall (his K year) and just foster that love for reading simply right now.

My plan is to use Queen’s LL Book 2 this year (we’ve used Book 1 and he really likes it) and move onto Book 3 for his 1st grade year to solidify phonics along with Pathway Readers, easy books, etc., for practice.  I feel by waiting until 1st grade to learn more of the phonics rules he’d get it quicker and be more ready for it.  I’ve read that LL Book 3 has a lot more of the phonics rules in it.

Any opinions on the Queen’s LL Book 3?

    Thank you!

It sounds to me like you are on the right track for your son. We too did the LLfLO this year with my son for Kg. He responded to it well and is ready for a bit more phonics too. I am doing the Phonics Museum with Him for the rest of this year, lessons 120 – 150 that starts the blends Sh Ch Th.. etc. I happen to have it on hand from doing the progam a few years ago with my daughter. I just need something to keep the momentum going for now. I wish I had picked up book 2 just in case we finished book 1 early. Looking at the LLfLO 3 I would say yes, it is enough. Especially if you are using other readers to go along with it. The thing I have learned in my short 4 years of HSing is that my children have had most success where I have stayed consistent in curriculum with them. I have used 1st Language Lessons by Jessie Wise with my daughter. She is in Level 3 now and I couldn’t be happier with her grammar skills. We did need to do a separate phonics program with that (Phonics Museum) for a complete Language arts program.

The thing that drew me to the Queen LLfLO for child #2 was that it was the same format as the 1st LL but at the beginning stages and had more phonics & picture study in it. 1stLL is a solid grammar, narrations, and sentence structure program. So technically, Queen’s LLfLO has a bit more to it in the whole area of Language Arts and you should feel confident in the building blocks you are creating. I don’t know if that was helpful but you have one cheerleader in your corner :)!
