Is JAG coming out on DVD format?

    Hello,
    I believe that I saw JAG was going to be available on DVD in August. Does anyone know if this is so? Our daughter and I would do better with a audio/visual instruction of this subject. Does anyone have an idea of what the cost will be for this when it’s released? We’re new to SCM and have returned to homeschooling after a 3.5 year break while attending a local Christian school. During this time she didn’t enjoy and struggled with language arts. Would you say this would help with instilling a love or at least a likeness of grammar again? Charlotte Mason style was her desire and my husband and I are delighted too!

    Yes, I got that e-mail notice too. I believe they said that they were planning for the JAG DVD to be around $20.

    RE instilling a love of grammar again: It seems that some people love to analyze words and some don’t. One of the main reasons I like to recommend AG and JAG is because they are clear and concise. You don’t have to spend all year every year rehashing the parts of speech. 

    You might want to take a look at their sample (at the very bottom of the page) to see if it looks like something that will be helpful for you and your daughter this year. You didn’t mention her age, but keep in mind that you don’t have to do parts of speech every year.

    Hannah turned 11 in March and is going into 6th grade. Diagramming is her worst nightmare. It wasn’t taught well at her school and now she cringes at it. Praying for something that will help her get past this feeling. We’ve looked at the samples. Still not sure with all the diagramming. What would you think based on your experience with Junior Analytical Grammar? Do you know when it is expected to release on DVD? Thank you for all your time and help (=

    My e-mail also said August for the release. JAG definitely emphasizes diagramming. You could have your daughter only do the parsing and skip the diagramming for this year, then add it back in when she gets to AG. Or you might go with another book that doesn’t have diagramming. Many moms on this forum like Our Mother Tongue. Have you looked at that? It might be less intense for her this year.

    Thank you, Sonya. After reading your responses to our questions and doing research, my husband & I have decided to use JAG w/ the DVD. Praying that indeed comes out in Aug. My husband feels that even if we reduce or remove the diagramming this year this is the best course for her. He also feels that with a different approach in teaching the diagramming, as well as the fact that she’ll be taking Latin this year, she may catch right on. We appreciate all your time and effort that you and your family have placed in SCM. Blessings to you & yours (=
