Is it really this simple?

Under the heading of “literature” in the Free Curriculum Guide for 1st grade……

    (seen here: http://simplycharlottemason.com/planning/curriculum-guide/literature/)

My question is: Is it really THAT SIMPLE to schedule all the literature choices for a whole year? Does everyone just follow Book Group 1 for first grade, Book Group 2 for second grade, etc.? I know that I can pick and chose but should I just take the simplicity of it and run? 🙂  What does everyone else add, if anything?

Also, is the CMO necessary for first grade? Or can I get by on paper? I am very visual and don’t know if I would like my plans on the computer instead of on paper……

(I am trying to stary buying for first grade so we don’t have so much expense all at one time.)

As always, thank you for taking time to respond. 🙂

I think it really can be that simple. However, I am famous for making things harder than they need to be! We came into SCM after a few years of homeschooling and so we sort of pick and choose literature as some of it we had already read. That and the fact that I am a book-aholic doesn’t help either!

But, yes, it can be that simple. The beauty of this approach- SCM- is that you do what works for your family. So use it as is or as a spring board and adjust to your current situation. If I was just starting out, and knowing what I know now, I would be very confident in just using her guide as is. Your child will get a stellar education this way.

AS far as CMO vs. paper- I think it is whatever would be user friendly to you. I had used CMO and liked it, but a weekly spreadsheet for each child works better for us. You could try the free trial and see first.

With SCM, you cannot go wrong.

Thank you Benita! I appreciate your opinions! It’s so hard not to second guess things.

I, too, am famous for making things more complicated than need be and heaven forbid a rabbit trail presents itself. I want so badly to just stick with pure SCM. I have such high regard for the many SCM materials I already have at my house and I recommend them to so many people. CM makes so much sense to me and I can really see habit traiing working at my house.

Thanks for the CMO advice. I think I am a spreadsheet kinda gal……unless there is a way to print it out. I need to try the free trial.

I like the CMO – and yes, you can print out the daily list.  I LOVE the reports too (there aren’t many, but they are PERFECT).

If you like spreadsheets, you could check this one out…  www.EvangelismStuff.com/lesson_planner

I want to stick purely to it and then the next day I think, “well, maybe I will just add this one, two, three things!” I do not struggle with the younger year offerings at all. But I do feel the need to supplement for high school. Would love to hear how others with high schoolers have stayed purely SCM or not.
