I just downloaded Fighter Verses today. I’m looking forward to learning how to use it. But an app set up like the Scripture Memory System is definitely something I’d buy.
I have been using the app Daily Notes (I think it was $4.99) to organize our Scripture Memory system. It allows me to make as many tabs as I want and tag each entry. So, I made tabs just like the SCM memory system (daily, even, odd, weekdays, 1-31). I can copy and paste verses and passages from my Bible reading app to add to a tab. Then when it is time to move an entry to a different tab, I just copy and paste it into the next tab before deleting the entry…like moving cards. Not only do I use this for Scripture memory, but I also copy and paste our hymns from hymnal.net and any literature/speeches (googled to copy and paste or just typed from my bluetooth wireless keyboard). I tag these Scripture, Hymns, Literature etc. so we can either do just Scripture or the entire selections for the day. It is fun to see what combination of recitation selections we get each day. Using the search tab, I can locate any passage quickly without going through each tab which is quite handy when these entries start adding up. Finally, I am able to email pdfs of a recitation to print at any time. I just thought I would describe our paperless system.
BTW, (this really has nothing to do with the Scripture Memory System…just getting my money’s worth for this app) I utilize Daily Notes to categorize our garage storage system. I made a storage tab and each entry is numbered to correspond to a storage box (mostly cardboard file boxes with page protectors taped to them to slide a sheet with a number printed in a large font). Since I typed everything that is stored in these boxes, I can simply type the item I am looking for into the search tab and, sure enough, the item pops up to be located immediately without rummaging through the boxes. I update entries regularly and monthly email a new pdf of all the entries to myself for backup. This was a system I learned from a book by Emilie Barnes and reinforced by the first Duggar book…just updated with an ipad app. I categorize quite a bit of things using daily notes…like individual journal entries and quotes from my silly children.
Yes, the bolded titles make it easier for me to scroll through the entries after I have clicked the tab and pushed the magnifying glass search icon on the bottom right. You don’t need to use the titles though because the top part of each entry will show too. For example, I can click on the tab like daily and then click the little search magnifying glass icon on the bottom right to pop up all the entries. I can scroll through and see all the titles for that tab. When I copy and paste, I transfer the title first then copy and paste (cut) the rest of the passage.
I do like to tag things like hymns, Scripture, and literature/speech recitations because I can use the search to show only one kind of recitation like all the hymns or just all the hymns for that particular day tab. I think you will need to play around with the search feature for awhile until you figure out how tags, tabs, and titles work. Also, you can type in a word, phrase, or title in the search to help locate anything. I do have running lists of all the passages I have put into my daily notes under my homeschool info tab…just lists without any modifications to organize it in any order except I separate the Hymns list, Scriptures list, and Recitations list (poetry, literature, speeches in one category).
Thanks, Janell. I think I’ll simply copy and paste the titles as well. At most I’ll be moving things once per week, so it shouldn’t be too much trouble. I like the idea of this app and can see it being useful for many things.
Ugh, I was almost finished with all of my data input and daily notes lost it ALL! I don’t know what happened, but I’m rather discouraged at the moment. I thought this would be a great stop gap, but I’m not so sure right now.
You may still have the info. Try either clicking the little house icon on the top right to show today’s entries or clicking the magnifying glass on the bottom right to show all the entries entered so far. Sometimes I accidentally touch a calendar number either on the top bar or in the left calendars and find myself on a blank page in the past. I have been using Daily Notes for six months and have not experienced a bug yet. Please know that I prayed for you today for encouragement as you enter school data. I am so sorry for your frustrations.
Woohoo! Janell, thank you. You were right. Everything was still there. I just couldn’t find it. I appreciate your prayers ,too. I needed a break anyway and went outside with the kids. Voila, no more frustration!
One quick question – do you remember the date and enter all of your memory work on that date or do you simply search with the tags? I assuming the entries are always tied to dates. I’m going to play with it a bit more and that will help.
These entries will be moving around anyway so I don’t worry about the date and use the current day’s date to enter in anything. I just click the tab and the magnifying glass icon on the bottom right to access all of the entries in that tab when is time to go over our memory work.
My internet time is now over for the week…I hope you have a great week and Happy New Year.
