You know, I am quite embarrassed. 😳 😳 😳 I just realized (after reading Lyn’s introduction) that after almost a year of ‘hanging out’ with you wonderful and wise women, I myself never did the ‘introduction’ I should have. Being new to the www, I bypassed my real life manners 😳 ; being new, I was unaware of how to ‘play the game’. 😯

Well, better late than never, right? 😕 Forgive me???

We are Wisconsin homeschoolers, a family of six (4 dc – dd10, dd7, ds4, & dd2), and new to the CM approach. We’ve homeschooled from the start, but I never really used a boxed curriculum. Our approach gravitated towards classical, with lots of interest in the TJE style. I stumbled across a used ‘When Children Love to Learn’ by Cooper at our last HS conference and ever since then, have read several books on her method. I am convinced of about 90% of her approach (we just can’t let go of WRTR – phonics has worked wonders in our family). Only because of you wonderful ladies, can I feel comfortable and confident to approach learning this way. I still have many questions, and always will I am sure, but I just “listen” to all the questions here and learn SO VERY much. THANK YOU to all who participate on this forum, and THANK YOU to Sonya and SCM staff for your generous and fruitful efforts in supporting other CMer’s.

    Blessing.

Certainly, you are forgiven, Rebecca! Today is National Forgive a CM Mom from Wisconsin Day! How does your son like having three sisters, or has he not really ‘noticed’ yet? What are TJE and WRTR (showing my ignorance here)?

You have been a real blessing to this board!

LOL – thanks for the chuckle, Cindy (and your forgiveness 😀 )

My son HAS noticed he is the only boy. He’s waiting for my “tummy to grow” so he can “have a brother”. He loves playing and being with his sisters, though.

TJE stands for a ‘Thomas Jefferson Education’ which is a student-directed approach. In my opinion, it’s a mix between classical and CM approaches. Here’s more information if you’re interested: http://www.tjed.org/tjed/intro

I gained alot from the book and highly recommend reading it. (Our library had one, but I ended up buying my own copy after my first read.)

WRTR stands for ‘Writing Road to Reading’ which is a spelling (phonetic) approach to reading. It is an integrated, total language arts approach, which I love, but I feel less stressed with the gentle CM way of teaching grammar, composition, writing, etc. We use it for teaching formation of letters (print and cursive), for its phonetic approach to learning how to read, and for spelling.

If I may, I will turn your words to *all on this board* “have been a real blessing”.

    🙂 🙂
