Hi! My name is Brianna and I’m the mama of three little boys (5, nearly 3, and an infant). I’m a homeschool graduate and I’m just starting on the second generation of homeschooling. Growing up, I babysat for a family who incorporated many of Charlotte Mason’s ideas into their home and school. They were my first inspiration to find out more about Charlotte Mason. Their kids were bright, happy children who noticed the world around them, had a sensitivity to art and music, loved good books, and cared deeply about their peers coming to know Christ.
So, here I am! I’ve spent the last few years reading up on Charlotte Mason (and may I say there’s quite a learning curve!). I feel like I’m finally getting my brain and heart more wrapped around her thoughts and philosophies. She was just plain brilliant, I think. I’ve still got loads to learn and I have so many questions about how some of it works out practically.
That’s why I’m here. I’ve lurked for a while and didn’t feel like I had anything to add, exactly, so I didn’t join. But now I’m ready to ask some questions, I think.
Here’s a little bit about me personally: I’m 32. I’m married (going on nine years) to the best guy in the world who was initially reluctant to homeschool, but has had a complete change of heart. I was born and raised in Ontario, Canada, but have lived in Georgia for more than 12 years now. I love the Lord with all my heart and want to know him better. I lvoe chocolate, good books and any meal that someone else makes. Laundry is my arch-nemesis, but I refuse to let it win. I don’t iron. Anything. Ever. Pretty things make me happy. I’m a frugal, frugal girl who stretches our small single income as far as I can. I often wish I had more money for books, eating out, and books.
Welcome Brianna; Its so good to have you here with us! You’ll surely be an added blessing to this great SCM community! Looking forward to getting to know you more. ~ Heather
Great to meet you Brianna, love your name by the way. How great that you were homeschooled, that must be an added advantage – you will know firsthand what worked and what didn’t. I answered your second post before this one – but on the books thing, if you can just occasionally look on Amazon or go to book sales you can get some great second hand deals. I just finished collecting all the nature books of Edwin Way Teale, and I did not pay more than $5 for any of them, it took over a year to find them all, but I am very happy and we love reading his books. Building a personal library is so much fun and can be done frugally – and your children are young so you have lots of time to search and find the bargains. Oh, I also love meals that someone else has made….
