Introducing myself

I just wanted to take a minute and introduce myself.  I’m wife to William and mom to John (19), Marcus (6), and very soon to Heath (5) whom we will bring home from China in a few weeks.  We are in our 14th year of homeschooling and my oldest graduated this past spring.

We’ve always used what I consider a CM approach, even though I didn’t hear about Charlotte until a few years into our homeschooling.  We’ve loved living books…so much so that I now operate a 9000 volume living books library out of my home called Children’s Legacy Library.

I’ve been redrawn to Charlotte’s methods recently, though, because of our pending adoption.  For the first time I’ll be educating two at the same time and I really wanted to get my ducks in a row.  It’s been interesting to read about her philosophy and methods and realize that some things that I had done were things Charlotte would approve of but were not really stereotypically “Charlotte Mason.”

I’ve been prowling around this site and have ordered some materials.  I’m very excited about Laying Down the Rails.  I desperately need to cultivate this, not only for my children, but for myself!!  I’ll be spending time in a corner with book and highlighter in hand!

Thanks in advance for all the help…

Welcome here… I’m brand new here myself.  I came across this website a few weeks ago and now I’m hooked!  I have a dd who is 7, ds who is 4 and a sweet little 23 month dd who likes for us to focus on her, not on home schooling!  We started out homeschooling with a rigid style, curriculum in a box, and lots of tears- on everyone’s part.  I realized that home schooling was not what I dreamed it would be so we’ve been gradually changing things up and moving towards a ‘living books’ type of homeschool.  I was so thrilled to come across this website and all the new ideas I can implement.

Congratulations on your upcoming adoption… our oldest dd was adopted and we are grateful EVERY DAY for the blessing of adoption.  I hope to be able to adopt again someday.  That’s so nice that the ages of your two youngest are so close, you’ll have lots of fun learning altogether.

    God bless!

    Welcome Robin!!

I am new to this website but not CM.

I have enjoyed this site –I also recently got the book -Laying Down The Rails– You will LOVE it!!!  Out of all my parenting books—I rate it as one of the top 5.  It is one I will reread every year–if not more.

I wish I could come and see your Library—sounds wonderful!

Have a Blessed Day in the Lord!

Hi, we love Laying Down the Rails too.  I have 3 children; 9,5,and 20 months.  This is my first year schooling two children and it has been tough.  Even though we are extremely light with my 5 year old.  If he doesn’t want to participate beyond bible and literature I do not make him, I let him go play with blocks instead.

I would love to dwell in your library for awhile too!

Well if you’re ever in the East Tennessee area, give me a holler.  You can browse all you want.  Smile
