I’ve been kinda “lurking” and learning on here for several months and have commented a few times, but wanted to introduce myself. My friend Lindsey introduced to me this site when we were talking about homeschooling last summer and I am so grateful as it has been exactly what I was looking for. I had been reading about Classical vs. CM when I learned about SCM and knew it was for us. I’ve been a lover of good books my whole life and know that is where most of my retained education has come from so it just made sense to me. I was fornunate enough to attend a SCM conference last fall in San Antonio that was great!
My name is Hope and I have 3 boys who are basically 6, 4, and 3 (some birthdays are about to occur 😉 ), My oldest was in a private K program as we were simply unsure about homeschooling went last fall came about. Through prayer, finding this site, and having a child actually in school, it was confirmed over and over that we should be homeschooling. My dh is a pastor and took a new job a few weeks ago. We are now in the Austin, TX area. The moved allowed us to easiy move our son out of the school and now are a couple week into officially homeschooling. For the remainder of this school year, I am simply concentrating on Bible, reading, and math and getting used to homeschooling, new routines, etc. We will officially be doing Year One starting in August. It’s been a little difficult getting oldest ds’ attention with 2 little brothers around, but I know it’s a learning curve for me and him and this week has already been much better and today he told me he loves “math at home” so I think we are on the right track. 🙂
Anyway, I just want to introduce myself here and tell you that these forums have already been a wealth of information to me. I do not know any other homeschoolers here in our new town (thought I’ve heard there are many — I just haven’t met any yet), so I may be bombarding you all with questions soon. 🙂
Its a pleasure to have you with us, Hope. You are so blessed to have found SCM so early on in the journey! Look forward to getting to know you more. ~ Heather
Welcome here! God bless you on all your new adventures! And beware, it’s easy to spend many hours hanging out here on these boards (and some of them when one should be homeschooling:).
Welcome to the forum. I’ve tried out a little of this & a little of that, but have always been drawn to CM. I have been transitioning to CM full-time this year and loving it. This forum is a wonderful resource.
I recommend getting the All-Day Charlotte Mason seminar dvd’s. I just finished watching them and Sonya is a wealth of information.
We’ve been here since Jan 2010, and we have ds8 & dd2. So glad you found SCM early in your HS journey. We are from Australia and have found a wonderful community of families and help here at SCM. Enjoy your 4 handsome boys!! I went for a stroll over to your blog today and it’s great.
Welcome Hope! I’m pretty new here myself, (haven’t made an “official” introduction yet, but need to!) and I’m in a similar situation as you. My dd is about to be 7 and is finishing up private K. We were also on the fence about homeschooling, but through much prayer, have decided to go ahead with it in fall (maybe even some this summer). This site is great, and I’d also recommend the all day seminar dvds – they’ve been a great help to me (although I guess they may be similar to what you heard at the seminar you attended in SA) – I’ll also be getting the planning your cm education dvd.
I’m not too far from you – in New Braunfels…there are sooo many really neat, Christian homeschool families around here, and I would imagine there as well. I’ve even begun to realize that there are other CM-ers out there…
