Can someone recommend an inexpensive 4GB MP3 player that has ONLY music and story capabilities? I don’t want photos or videos or radio; just downloaded stories and music.
I would like this also, cause my kids got one that plays radio and I always worry that they will switch over and I will not know. Hoping to see some responses.
Our kids have the basic iPods that can only play stories and music. They are small, about 1.5″x1.5″ and come in several different colors. Ds has a green one; dd’s is pink. They are sold with headphones and cost about $50. You can find them at Walmart, Best Buy, or Apple stores. You connect them to your computer and drag songs/books from iTunes into the iPods. I’m not sure how many GB these have, maybe 2 or 4. Our kids love them and bought them with their own money!
These don’t have radio on them. Our kids have the Lamplighter Audio Dramas on theirs and listen to them daily while doing chores. It makes chore time a lot more pleasant! Grandparents have bought iTunes gift cards in the past, which we have used to choose books to download to their iPods. Both kids have completed several nursery rhyme collections, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz audio book, Winnie-the-Pooh, plus their Lamplighters.
Sony e-readers with 2 GB + expansion slots for card up to 32GB. I like them because there is no internet access, they display epub books , and play mp3s. No more. Just not as portable as a small mp3 player.
The iPods I mentioned are VERY portable–fit in the kids’ pockets and/or clip to their shirt/pants. There is no screen, no internet access, no radio–the only thing they can listen to is what you put on it. Also, you can access the iPod settings and control the maximum volume allowed, so they can only turn it up so loud. We really like this feature.
On the shuffle, I’m not sure. You can use the forward/back buttons to skip songs or stories. You can also pause and it will save your place. Once it’s been turned off, however, I’m not sure about that. The songs and audiobooks are separate folders on the iPod, which you can see when you have it open in iTunes. Any audiobooks we have purchashed in the iTunes Store go into the Books folder, and the music is in the Music folder. One thing about the Lamplighter Audio Dramas: iTunes reads them as music, not books, so they are in the Music folder, but our dc know how to find the ones they want.
my daughter was given one of these from a grandparent a couple of years ago. She likes it. It’s a Sansa clip mp3. It is really easy to put music and stories on through the computer. You can also create playlists on the computer (putting things in the order you want) before they go on the mp3. It’s pretty basic – no bells and whistles, but pretty decent sound. Different colors seem to be different prices…
