My dd11 is looking for a map of where the different Indian tribes were in the 1800s, but we can’t find much of anything online.  I have tried Googling “Indian tribes Minnesota,” “Minnesota Indian tribes history,” with or without “map” attached in both, and while we find maps, we don’t find a good one of where the territories were of each in the state or even region.  We have even found conflicting ones (which may not be conflicting – we just don’t know a lot of the history of them yet – which is why we wanted the map…).  Any ideas for better search terms, or does anyone have good maps they’ve found?

I am not sure if these sites are exactly what you are looking for, but you can try them and see. They seemed to have some helpful information.

Also, I really am not trying to be politically correct and am not suggesting this for that reason, but I seem to get better search results online and at my library when I use “Native American” instead of “Indian”. Though, I seem to still get results referring to “Indians” even when I use the term “Native American”. Just thought I would mention it in case you needed to do more internet searches. I hope I didn’t come off as a politically correct snob! :-

You might try the Minnesota Historical Society website.  Here is a link to the seach function.
