I will be leaving for the curriculum fair after lunch today and am so excited about finding some of the resources you guys have talked about. I wanted to see if there were any last min. things you guys think are MUST HAVES. Ok I just realized I use the term “you guys” way to often. Sorry.
I am thinking about getting The Handbook of Nature, I’m going to look at Ray’s Arithmetic and lots of other great things..I have a long list, mostly of read alouds Who needs curriculum when you have good literature? 😀
Anyway, if anyone has some Must Haves post them here. I will check the forum before I leave.
By the way, Shelly, I am thinking of getting Comstock’s Handbook of Nature Study too, but I don’t know if it will be very helpful outside of the New England region. I’d love to know your impression of it if you get to have a look! Maybe I’ll begin a discussion to hear what other folks know about it.
has listed Outdoor Hour challenges and if you go back to Challenge 1 she walks you through getting started with the Handbook. (It is one of my favorite blogs!)
I did get a chance to browse Handbook of Nature Study but it looked a little overwhelming to me. I didn’t realize how BIG the book was and there seemed to be so much in it that I didn’t know where to begin. Of course when I am at a fair and it is crowded and I have a 4m.old in an ERGO, I am not always in the right frame of mind to really look in any depth at a resource. The other thing is I have my science planned for this coming year..so HNS was going to be just an added resource..so all of that being said I didn’t buy it.
But I will be interested to see the links above and see if it helps.
Shelly
