I have been out of town with no internet access for the past 5 days. Now I have to read all the past posts to see if I missed anything good!! What am I saying? It’s always good. It’s good to be back.
Faith, it was both business and pleasure. I was at a parent practicum learning more about the classical approach…I am not switching camps. I am loving the CM approach but I like to blend it with the classical model. 🙂
What kind of practicum? We blend CM and Classical as well. My family is part of Classical Conversations, and we are enjoying it! Although, sometimes it’s hard to mesh these two methods easily. I’d love to hear ideas if you have any.
Oh Faith, 🙂 it was a CC tutor training and parent practicum that I was attending. My family will be starting in the fall. We are very excited about it and think it will help to streamline and free up some time to really focus on some of the other areas of character, Bible, hymn study, and other interests. Knowing that with CC we have the basics down.
Have your kiddos liked all the memory work?
What state are you in?
I’m in KY.
Sorry for rambling but this will be the first CC class in our area so we are the guinea pigs of this area and there aren’t a lot of people that know of CC around here. So it is so nice to have someone to chat with.
If you have any pointers or suggestions please share.
Last year was our first year as well. I’m in IL, and it has been taking off here. My kids love it! It took some getting used to at first, but once we got the hang of it, we really started to have fun with it. What age are you tutoring? I am tutoring the Journeymen (8-9) for the second year this fall. My DD9 will be taking Essentials for the first time, and I have a DD5 in Abecedarians.
I find that we have some conflicts between the Classical and CM method, but whenever I get stuck, I usually tend towards the CM way. It just feels more natural.
My kids have done so well with the memory work. It’s a great little tool to crack out whenever I am among homeschool skeptics. Get a 5 yo to recite the presidents and the preamble, and get a 9 yo to recite 8 verses of John in Latin, and you will make their jaws drop!!! (I recently tested this theory on my MIL and it was priceless!)
I see that we have private messager back, so if you would like to exchange e-mail or phone numbers for more detailed conversation, I’d be up for it. The program can be really intimidating and hard to get a handle on, unless you’re right in the thick of it. I had no idea what to expect last year when we started.
Have a great day!
Faith 🙂
