For those of you who use ILL, do you do the outlining assignments? I have not noticed it as a CM method, especially for my dd’s age – 10 yrs old.
Thanks for any feedback. I tried to post this question earlier but it did not post – hopefully this same question won’t be posted twice. I probably did something wrong! 🙂
I just tried to reply to your other post and got a topic closed message.
Yes — we will be using the outlining lessons for my ds 11. I think they are a very important part of the pre-writing process. Now that children have learned to pay attention and tell back details of a story it is time to focus on telling those details back in chronological order (rather than the “So then so-and-so did this, but first this happened and so”) and grouping like pieces of information together (information about an animal grouped into paragraphs about habitat, diet, characteristics, etc.). Some kids may do this kind of thing very naturally — my ds dosen’t. This is an organizing tool and a very useful one that will prevent a lot of post-writing revision.
Does this make sense? I’ve been interrupted that many times I can hardly remember what I’m trying to say.

Yes, you ARE making sense. I can see better now why this is a very useful tool or habit to develop. My dd tends to narrate back a little randomly at times – it sounds like you are saying that this will help her to learn to organize her thoughts.
Have you read Hearing,Telling, and Writing? I did not see outlining as one of the CM Language Arts tools on her list in the book. I just got it and started to read it so it may be in there some where.
