A few weeks ago I posted about needing to find work I could do from home. Sonya pm’ed me about Freedom Project Education. Yesterday I accepted positions with them for tutoring and substitute “teaching”. They are looking for tutors in grammar, math, and science for grades 6-12. They are a classical school, but use BJU, Saxon, and Apologia for these subjects. They pay $350 per semester for tutoring (it’s only 1 hr per week, so that’s $19 dollars/hr) and $30 a day for substituting. I think what that would involve would be more of facilitating the discussion group, since you wouldn’t have access to the teacher’s plans. I think they require degrees in the subject area. If you’re interested, their website is http://www.fpeusa.org. Contact information for the director is on the site.

So have you started this yet?  how is it going?

Do they definitely need a degree?

I start the training sessions for their software on Monday. Contact them about whether the degree is required. I would think so for math and science anyway.

I may phone and check with them….

The whole degree thing gets me…  I had a job once as a software developer, when they developed a standard payscale (with a formula – there was a performance multiplier.)

Assuming we rated “average” in performance (multiplier of 1.0) – a software developer with a degree earned $700 a month more than one with a Technical Diploma…. and this was in the early 90’s…   $7,800 more a month for EXACTLY the same work…
