IE9 Issue and work around

Just so people know, IE9 seems to have a problem with the discussion forums.  If you try to send a post, you get a message saying you need to actually have some content.  (it is seeing an empty box).

However, near the right side of the URL box, there is a little button to go into “compatibility mode” – with that clicked, everything is working ok again.

Just letting people know, in case they are experiencing the same thing

Just bumping this up for anyone else having the issue.

I’ve had this (similar symptoms) happen on another site too… so it is an IE9 issue.   But the workaround is really important!

I had the problem too and then found the compatibility issue and just have to use IE8 to post and though it is a nuisance it works.  I am sure MS will get a fix for it eventually.  Love this IE9 much better than previous Explorer versions – so I will put up with the inconvenience for now.  Linda

In your IE9, there is a little button in the URL box that looks like a little line graph that makes IE9 work in a compatibility mode.  With that on, you can post on here.  (but I still couldn’t post a comment in blogger….)

I don’t see that symbol (line graph) I have a magnifying glass, down arrow, undo symbol and X – so I go to tools and change the compatibility.  Am I missing something?  Linda

Hm, I’m not sure…  I have an extra little button between the magnifying glass and the undo symbol.   But it wasn’t there when I was on some other site the other day (when I was trying to post the comment in blogger)….   so I’m not sure where it came from.

Just to let everyone know, I’ve researched the problem and this is caused by bugs in IE 9 that don’t allow it to work with the visual editor we use for posting to the forum. It has the same problem with visual editors on many other sites and there’s nothing we can do about it on our end to fix it. The bugs have been reported to Microsoft but they haven’t responded as to if or when they will be fixed.

In the mean time, you might want to avoid upgrading to IE 9 if you haven’t done so already. Either way, you can always grab the free Google Chrome or Firefox if you want to upgrade to a more compatible and modern browser.

Now for some reason that symbol has shown up and that is simpler – thanks for the tip.  Linda

Doug, I just love the way this new IE9 is set up, it is simple to use and now with that little symbol that Suzukimom mentioned it is fine.  So I am now happy with it.  Linda
