My son(8) has problems with determining which pronoun to use.  “Look at she!”  is a common exclamation when he is watching his baby sister do something funny.  He seems to favor she/he over her/him.  I have been correcting him for the last two or so years, but have not seen any improvement.  When he first started talking he would always use the pronoun “he” regardless of gender.  It took about a year before he started using “she” when talking about a female.  Does anyone have any ideas on how to work on this.  All I have been doing is having him repeat the sentance with the proper pronoun. And I admit that I don’t always catch him to correct him.   I would appreciate any advice or ideas.  TIA.

Hm.  He’s only 8 so may not understand subjects of the sentence and using the pronoun in reference TO him/her.

I would say time and grammar.  I don’t know how else to get there.  He’s still young, though, so keep going.  (I know, not always easy.)  It sounds like it took some time for the other concept to sink in and he’s also applying it at the other end.

    Wish I could help more.

I am following this! My 4 yo does the opposite (prefers her/him to he/she). We have been doing the same as you to no avail!

My 5yo son does this as well. It is something he has worked on with the speech therapist and while we have seen some minor improvement, it is still a problem. At this point I just keep correcting him and hope the correct pattern will eventually sticvk where it belongs.

There is a site that has lots of good information, as well as a language screener to help seeif there is a problem needing speech and language therapy. http://www.home-speech-home.com/language-disorder.html This page is the information on language disorders. If you think it may fit, there is a link at the top for the screeners.
