The All About Spelling program uses a simplified version of the SMS which you could do on your own. There are divider tabs for review, mastered, and future lessons. Each word is on a card and can be moved accordingly. It works well for us.
That sounds like it’d work well for us! I don’t have All About Spelling. Can you explain to me how I’d set up this system? Or maybe I can find a link to a blog or other webpage that explains it.
You can view All About Spelling here – http://www.allaboutspelling.com – but I don’t know if it has a picture of the box as part of the samples. Basically, you’d need an index card box, some dividers, and some index cards. On the divider cards, label each one: Review, Mastered, Future Lessons. Write each word on a card and file accordingly. Keep behind Future Lessons until introduced; move to Review for as long as needed; move to Mastered when mastered. You could periodically review some from the mastered section, too. This could work with any spelling program – traditional, phonics based or prepared dictation.
