My daughter has a moderate learning disability in math. She is in 9th grade. I was advised to work on life skills…. those areas that will help her be more independent as an adult. She has been doing workbooks involving money and I ordered another one from Amazon that involves cooking. I have SCM Pet Store, but will probably wait until the fall to start that. After she finishes a workbook called Menu Math, I have Checkbook Math for her to do and I ordered one called Building Real Life Math Skills. I am looking for ideas outside of what I am finding on Amazon. Anything to do with money, measuring, cooking, etc. I would appreciate any ideas for resources along this line. I plan to do more hands-on activities with her, but I like having workbooks she can do as well.
Click on Everyday Math Skills to see the math options. They are Canadian, so there might be a few differences particularly in the Money Math workbook in terms of deductions from paychecks, etc. But they are free and I like them (I am Canadian so I wanted Canadian consumer math).
Erin, That is the kind of thing I’m looking for. Although I am not in Canada, it looks like we can use some of it. The kitchen math looks like it will work, although some metric measurements are used. This will be a good resource for later as well, as some of the work is a bit advanced for where my daughter is now. Thank you for sharing this.
