Hi Misty! My 4yo (just turned 5) memorized all the verses that the rest of our family did. I didn’t have any kind of special resource or CD; just the plain Bible. I’m sure my kiddos would have love learning their Bible verses in song-form. I honestly never thought of teaching them that way. My thinking was that I already had a Bible, and that was free so it would have to do. She was barely 4 when we started memorizing, and we learned whole passages, not just one verse at a time. She can now quote Psalm 100, Psalm 23, and 1 Cor. 13:4-8 on her own. We spent about six weeks on each passage, doing one verse per week and adding it to what we learned from the weeks before. I am so glad I taught 1 Cor. 13:4-8 when I did. It was invaluable when trying to teach the habit of kindness.
I say all that to encourage you that you can teach a 4yo without a “special resource.” Not that I have anything against those resources at all; we are on a budget, and I try to use what I have before buying anything extra.
I also think that seeing her as a whole child, like CM teaches, definitely applies to Scripture memorization. Just because she’s 4 doesn’t mean she can’t understand and hide God’s Word in her heart. It might take her longer than her siblings, or less time…you never know! My 4yo out-did her brother several times in this department…although I’ll never tell him that because each child is different!
