  • Anybody have any feelings on the ipad mini?  I am curious and looking at different options….any opinions on it welcome, but I am talking about the mini, not the regular i-pad.  Thanks…

when my mom got us the ipad for school, she got herself a mini ipad. It is very cute 🙂 and she was expecting it to be smaller than it is. I have seen videos on it and they look amazing quality wise and there is no “mini” feeling to it. If I didnt need my ipad for our school but just for me I would choose the mini. It is easier to carry.

The screen isn’t that much smaller. My dh sold his iPad for a mini. He loves the mini. Lighter. Smaller. Handier. The sell of his iPad almost paid for his mini. He does wish it had the screen quality of the phone. Maybe the next upgrade.

Everyone I know who has gotten one has felt “gypped” by paying so much for the screen–everyone has complained about it.  These are all previous Ipad/Iphone users, though, used to a superior screen.

The iPad mini has the largest screen of any device in its physical size range so it has that going for it. It will also run any of the apps made for the larger iPad.

One of the things that I really like about the full-size iPad is that I can see an entire 8.5″ x 11″ PDF page without scrolling or zooming and the text is large enough to be readable. I have not yet had a chance to test that on the smaller iPad so that would be something to look into if that’s important to you.

Similar to what Bookworm mentioned, I’ve also heard a few stories of people who already owned other iOS devices with the higher-resolution retina display. Some of them were surprised at how much they had become used to the higher resolution and noticed the difference that the iPad mini did not have it. However, many of them also decided it was a good tradeoff for the convienient smaller size and chose to go with the mini as a primary device even though they owned both.

The mini still has a really great screen that shows clear images and vibrant colors. Most people who are not directly comparing against a full iPad that they’ve been using seem to be really happy with it. I’ve also observed that the difference is mostly noticed by tech people and others don’t seem to be aware of it even when shown both devices side by side.

Thanks so much for all the info, good food for thought….as we have a laptop, touch, and desktop, I am not sure I need a full size ipad, but I would like to update my touch sometime, and thought this would be a good choice, maybe?  Food for thought….

This would be a good choice. If you could get to the Apple store and look at the screen differences it might help. We compared the iPhone 5, iPad, and Mini. The screen clarity and color was better than the old iPad but a far cry from the iPhone 5. My dh decided to get the mini and then sell it once they come our with the retina display mini. He is pleased with his decision so far. We considered getting me one but opted to wait for the retina display. I’m not a techy person (as I type this on my iPhone) so I’m not even sure I want one.

Pollysoup, thanks for the info, that is my problem too…I am not sure I would use it enough to warrant the expense, I am nearly always at home, the kindle suits me for reading, and the ipod is ok, except I don’s have enough room for the music I want to carry….and the laptop or desktop does everything else….so I am not sure I want one either…maybe an upgraded ipod would be a better choice or nothing at all and save the money – smartest idea of all methinks….
