Due to many situations beyond my control, I am very behind in planning this school year. Although we are still schooling, I am still making year plans. I need some help with 7th grade.
I am looking specifically for 7th grade literature books. We are studying Modern History with several resources, so it would be great to have some of the lit book match the time period. Does anyone have any favorite lit. books for 7th grade for this time period? My boys are good readers, and will do written narrations for these. Until I come up with a list, we are going to start “The Giver” this week.
Any of the books for their grade level from the SCM Free Curriculum Guide would be good. Also, the book Rascal by Sterling North goes along with your time period–it’s set around World War I.
My eighth grader is reading Watership Down, even though it is listed in the 9-12 grade category. Since you mentioned that your boys are good readers, they could try any of the Dickens books as well.
My 7th grader’s reading list is the following. There are quite a few history related ones. We are doing Modern History also. I make no claims about my list. I got some of it from HOD. The rest is just desicions I made and decided to stick with before I drove my self crazy. Hope it helps in some way though.

Heehee…I use the guides and suggestions from Beautiful Feet for both history and literature. I also use Lightning Lit. 7th grade includes Tom Sawyer, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Helen Keller, All Creatures Great & Small, and some poetry.
FYI, I removed the mostly promotional posts per our fourm guidelines. We welcome the discussion of materials from other publishers and we also welcome those publishers as participants in the discussions here. (Although it would be better to register as a person instead of a company.) However, that discussion should take the form of being a helpful part of the community rather than promotion.
While studying WWI we read Air Service Boys Over The Enemy’s Line – The German Spy’s Secret, by Charles Amory Beach. I think that may be a series, but that’s the only one we read. For WWII we read Under the Blood-Red Sun, by Graham Salisbury, set in Hawaii when Pearl Harbor happened. Ds really liked that one and asked me to keep it when I was cleaning off the shelves. 🙂
