Hi,  I finally finished entering in all my students information in the scheduler.  But I am not sure how I want to use it.  Do you print it out everyday for your kids to use?  Do you have them write in down in a planner?  Do you have them just use the computer to check their assignments?  I am not sure how to make the transition and I am a bit afraid that my kids won’t like this.  They are use to having a weekly planner with everything filled out for each day-and they love to cross things off when they are done.

I would love to hear how others are using the scheduler specifically for the children’s use.

    Thanks

I have done a couple of things over the years…..

I have printed the Daily to-do list every day.  That was fine for 1 child, or 2 kids with a smaller workload – now it would be way too much paper.

I have set things up for a sudo-weekly schedule.  They knew how many “readings” to do each day.  I’d “open” any item that was to be done more than once in a week (cross out any extra that wasn’t done every day) – and then it was like a weekly to-do list.   That one works pretty well, but can look overwhelming to a child….

I have had them mark things off on the computer (with me there…)

I have toyed with the idea of printing the daily list to a PDF – and have them use acrobat’s highlight features to mark things off there…. haven’t tried that one yet.

I do wish that kids could have their own sign-in so I could just let them mark it off on the computer without worrying about them accidently messing something up….

I log into the organizer each morning and leave the screen up on the desktop computer so my older daughter can check what she has to do for the day. I work with my younger daughter and have the organizer up on my laptop. I click her work off as we complete each item. I click off my older daughter’s items during our meeting/ correction time. I don’t allow either of them to actually click off their own work. HTH

I also leave the organizer open in a tab on my computer each day – but I set it up first thing by minimizing any activites that come up but we are not doing that day (by clicking on the name of the resource, it minimizes it to one line). As we go through the day, I tick off the kids work, making any notes that need to be made, and then minimize that resource. So at a glance I can see what remains to be done that day.

A lot of our materials are “open them up and do the next thing” like a math lesson, handwriting practice, or the Queens lang lessons. Or our reading books. So my kids just do those automatically – then I tell them what other stuff to do. None of my kids ever check off the assignments themselves or even look at the organizer, and I don’t print off a weekly schedule. I do print reports at the end of the year – a month at a time – and keep those filed for my records.

It is neat to read how others use the organizer day by day – it is so versatile! I have been using it for 3 or 4 years and it keeps us on a good path 🙂
