figure out how to work this thing. I’m so frustrated. Do I have to have wi-fi? Can’t I just plug it in the USB port to my cpu to download stuff and then access it without wi-fi? I really want to transfer all those SCM pdf’s to it, but I can’t even get the thing to register. I know I have to do some manuevering to get the pdf’s there. Should I return and just get an i-pad? Is an i-pad easier to learn to use? At this point maybe I should just get myself a laptop.
I won’t be any help on how to use it, but as a regular Kindle owner, I can tell you that Amazon customer service has been extremely courteous and helpful every time we have called them. I would give them a call for help before I made a decision to return it. I do know of people who have the Fire for homeschool and absolutely love it. Good luck 🙂
Well, I don’t have a Kindle Fire, I have a Kindle Paperwhite, but I had a bit of trouble maneuvering how to make it work at first. I googled for help. Maybe if you google “How to transfer pdf file to Kindle Fire”, you’ll find some answers?
You have to download what you want using your computer, but the USB cord will allow you to transfer your books to the kindle. We don’t have wi-fi at home, and we were able to put books on my daughter’s kindle fire. Plus, since it’s linked to my Amazon account, I get an email confirming purchase whenever she downloads something from them. (Makes it easy to say, “Uh, no darling, you may not keep the airhorn app to scare your sister with….”)
I haven’t downloaded anything for her in a while, but here is a link to instructions & a video on Amazon:
Actually, to register it and get started you need access to wifi for about 5-10 minutes. Then you can come home download your books to your account. Then you have to have access again long enough for them to load. Once you load them, they are available to read without wifi.
However, everytime you want to add more, once they are loaded, you will need access for a few minutes to download.
The Kindle registration page has a place where it will help you locate free wifi. In my situation, the McDonalds and AT&T store were free. Since I am not purchasing anything there, I felt guilty about using it. Finally figured out to sit in the parking lot in my car and let it download for a few minutes. LOL
