So I am getting my 10 year old back into the habit of narration after a long break, but his narrations are extremely.detailed. Basically, he tells me each and every detail of what he read. Is this a good or bad thing? Will the art of summation come with practice?

I can understand that would be a bit terrifying… Like, what am I getting myself into?!? I would stick with it and he’ll soon figure out how to summarize. I think you have a good problem on your hands, but I would encourage him to only include details that are vital to the progression of the story. Another thought, maybe give him a set time limit?

I think I would rather have that problem.  Haha!  I’m lucky if I can get two complete scentences out of my daughter but she only just turned 7 so hopefully she will share more details as she gets older.

I have the same “problem” with my 10 yo son’s oral narrations, ServingwithJoy.  I think it is a good sign, that he can start written narrations soon.  I am going to follow this.
