I would love some recommendations of CDs of hymns that you enjoy. I don’t want anything with a warbly singer or choir, but if you know of a tasteful one that’s exactly what I’d like, or something that’s instrumental would be nice too. If it’s available on iTunes that’d be another huge plus, but certainly not necessary. Hoping there are some hymn fans out there who can offer suggestions. Thanks so much!
Oh I’ll have to check out the other recommendations! The past month, we’ve been enjoying Jars of Clay “Redemption Songs” which are all old hymns set to more contemporary music.
Here is a website of some of my favorite hymn cds – http://igracemusic.com/ – they are all older/traditional hymns set to newer music. I can’t really say it is one particular style of music, it is many different styles, but you can listen to clips on their website as well as on itunes (where you’ll see links to other similar groups that are doing the same thing). http://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/indelible-grace-music/id286614633
While for Sunday morning I prefer a more traditional style music – I love listening to these in the house and in the car – the depth of the lyrics of the old hymns is amazing. And these cds are near and dear to me because they all started out of a college campus ministry I was involved in during college and then worked for after college. Very talented folks to say the least!
Passion (Chris Tomlin, Christie Nockels, David Crowder) came out with a hymn CD several years ago that we absolutely love and have enjoyed for a long time now. It’s called Hymns: Ancient & Modern. It’s old hymns set to contemporary music. A really great CD!
