Are there any CD’s or downloads that have to 4 parts seperated into tracks so one can learn the parts of Hymns? I came across these but didn’t care for the nasal sound of the tenor part. http://bluebehemoth.com/artist/4213/
Ear training would do him a world of wonders so that he can learn to sight sing. IMO, I would rather give him the tools to learn to be independent of a crutch than to give the crutch itself. It will also build his confidence in singing. Learning intervals and solfege is a great place to start! If he can read music he should be able to catch on to how each interval sounds pretty quickly. Let me know if I can help!
Not meaning to butt in here…but do you know of any materials to teach younger children to sing intervals and solfege artcmomto3? I am familiar with them myself (music background), but not sure how to go about teaching that to my kids (that and if I have to make things up for myself, they tend not to get done…only so many hours in the day!) Instrumental music lessons are out of the question for us right now for a variety of reasons, but it’s occured to me more than once that teaching them some of these kind of music theory basics would at least give them some kind of foundation. =)
Yes, I taught elem. music for 6 yrs. and have taken level 1 Kodaly, hoping to go back and finish to become Kodaly certified. I can send you a PM, or if anyone else here is interested I can post here some ideas to get you started.
Thanks. Look forward to seeing what you have. =) I was in choir from 5th grade all the way through the end of college and play a little wee bit of piano (although we don’t have one at home right now.) It’s a little daunting to know where to start with the kids though, even with all that experience. =)
