What is everyone using (all age groups)? I expected to see the reproductive system presented in the human anatomy and physiology resources I have been perusing, as they cover the circulatory system, digestive system, etc. But nada. In my search, I have discovered that this topic is typically covered in “health” curricula for middle and high schoolers. I am looking for a combination of:
1) A matter-of-fact presentation of the human reproductive system
2) sexual and asexual reproduction
3) A message that we are all unique, created in the image of God, develop at our own pace, are special, meant to remain chaste, and designed to enjoy intimacy in a healthy and committed marital relationship
4) Details regarding sexual intercourse in a marriage, presented tastefully and delicately, but without being squeamish or joking around
4) A message regarding the value of life before birth, the beautiful and captivating development of a growing fetus, the miracle of birth, and families meant to be together (through birth and adoption)
Any ideas to share with me? Thanks in advance – I know it’s a tall order! Maybe I should write my own series – ha!
We used Life Before Birth for the kids when they were younger. I think it’s out of print, but it’s by Gary Parker and you still find it. For kids that are too young for sexual details, it’s a good covering of how they got here, the sanctity of life, embryology, miracle of birth, etc.
For older kids, when I was a missionary, I translated a section out of the HS Biology book by BJU Press. It was really good on human reproduction from a Christian perspective. We used in the JH and HS Sunday school classes.

The book was Christian and honoring to marriage and a good introduction for our children. My friend recommended it to me and I think Focus on the Family endorsed it (or they used to).
Another book we used was recommended by SCM in the 106 days of Creation unit (NLA). The one with the black cover is a little more “graphic” meaning they show a baby being born, show actual anatomy of girls and boys at different ages, and also show a line drawing of intercourse and discuss how it works. It’s all done tastefully, however there is no Christian perspective. The black cover one is black and white while the green cover has color pictures. They are actually pretty different even tho the title is the same. I’m glad I have both.
