How'd it go with a 1st grader?!

Can someone tell me (who has gone through the SCM history studies (such as Early Modern), followed it as planned out in the guides) how it went with their kids? Especially with a 1st grader? Did the child “get” it? Was it enjoyable? Was it a lot of work for a 1st grader? Thanks!

We actually did Early Modern when my oldest was in 1st grade and we really enjoyed it! The selection of books was perfect, and even her younger prek brother listened in to a lot of the books. Some of the Stories of America books were a bit longer for her, so I would break up reading a bit in the morning and a bit over lunch.

I was glad that we started with Early Modern, vs. Ancients. For us it was a great into to SCM and CM methods.

Over all, it was a great year! When we revisited the time period she was so excited to revisit the family read aloud books with her younger siblings and also enjoyed reading her grade level books at the same time.
