    Hi,

I am going to switch to SCM but I have NO IDEA how to start.  Should I try getting everything organized: hymn study, poetry, picture study etc….  or should i add each new subject a week at a time?  I was even thinking of taking a day or two “off” to decompress for the way we were doing school and try to start fresh.  I know i can’t start History until wed. since my books arent’ here anyways.  or maybe just do some hands on stuff for two days.

Those of you who have switch mid-stream in a school year, how have you done it?  ANY tips or ideas would be soo helpful!

    Thanks

Have you been doing a CM style of education and are just switching to SCM? Or are you new to CM and SCM? If you are new to CM and SCM, the blog series Sonya did on transitioning to CM might be helpful. Here’s the link:

    Hope that helps!

I would start with your basic subjects (3Rs, history, science, Bible) and add the rest a subject at a time.  Last year we added a subject each week or two and by mid-year we’d added all but one or two.  It gave me time to figure out how to teach it and time for them to adjust to it.

This is a helpful blog series: http://simplycharlottemason.com/series/subject-by-subject/

I still like to re-read the information when I want to refresh a subject or two!

Watch the All day seminar! I just started a tread on that because I just finished watching the DVD’s and it really helps to have a clear idea on how to teach each subject a Charlotte Mason way. Can’t recommend it enough.

Thanks for the ideas!  I just bought the All Day Seminar this weekend.  We have been doing some SM things in our school already-last year we tried heart of Dakota for awhile.  This year, i started back with a more classical approach and realized that I didn’t like it.  So now I have to undo what I spent all summer planning!!  And get the kids back into the habit of narrarting again.

I also have 1 16 year old who is doing some CM things-written narration for C.S. Lewis Book she is reading.  I just wish there was a way to do American History is living books instead of the mega big books that it seems high school books are all like.  If anyone has any ideas of a way to do American history without using the mega books or more living books, I would LOVE to hear!!!
