What do y’all call English over the four years of high school to make a transcript look lovely. Say we are using Enrichment Studies 1 and reading the 9-12 literature selections together, plus narrations, grammar, etc. The literature doesn’t seem to fit into a typical”World Lit”, or “American Lit” designation. Would you just say English 1 – Composition and Literature, English 2 – Comp and Lit, etc? How would you name the English course? Or should I pick family literature read alouds by British authors so I can call it British Lit, American authors for American Lit? My son will be a junior and I pretty much bungled his transcript, my daughter starts high school this year and I would like to be a bit more consistent.
So how does that work for a college that wants to see World Lit and American Lit. Or do colleges not want to see that? At this point I expect my kids to start at community college, but I wouldn’t want to ruin their ability to attend a 4 year university just because I didn’t name classes the way they wanted them named.
I don’t know personally from experience, but I think the American Lit or World Lit part would go in the course description, rather than in the title of the course. (That answer is based on reading similar threads at other forums of what to call English courses on transcript, if that helps.)
Hopefully someone else will reply who knows more than me. 🙂
HSLDA has some great resources for writing a transcript. I went to a highschool and beyond seminar and there was an HSLDA representative there from their highschool and beyond department and it was so helpful. They have a department set aside just for these types of questions. As she said they are like guidance counselors for the parents to help them guide their children. They will help walk through transcript writing, how to name classes and what colleges want on transcripts. Maybe check with them as another resource
