I am looking for read aloud books for next year. How do you know if the book you are looking at is unabridged? I am looking at Black Beauty, Understood Betsy and The Railway Children, for example. There are so many different publishers, versions, etc. What do I need to look for to make sure I am getting the right version? For example, when I click on the Amazon link on SCM and then scroll down the page to review the product detail, I see that the publisher info states that it is a revised edition or a reprint. I admit I am completely ignorant in this area. It’s hard to find a book that actually states that it is unabridged. Please help me ladies. I would be very appreciative!
Take a look at the copyright page. The ones that have been abridged or changed will say something like “Adapted for young readers”, “Retold by [someone other than the original author(s)]”, “Based on the original”, or similar. I had a really hard time finding Black Beauty unabridged. I ordered 3 copies that I thought were unabridged but because I bought them used, they were different editions. I believe the Sterling edition from Barnes & Noble is unabridged.
