How to improve my reading speed.

    Does anyone have advice on how I can improve my own silent reading speed?  My reading speed has actually became slower since I started reading aloud to my kids all the time. Now I always read at read-aloud speed and silently vocalize (I don’t know how to explain this) I’m worried I’ll never be able to keep up with pre-reading my kids books and I’d like to help my kids read faster before 7th grade.  My oldest is a very advanced reader but also slow like me. Thanks for any advice you have.

    btw I tried forcing my eyes to follow a pencil at a fast pace but I was not able to understand what I read when I did this.

    My son used a speed reading book from the library.  I will post the exact title if I can find it.

    There is a fabulous free app called Acceleread that worked wonders for my son.
