how often do you do math?

    LOL  I know just what you mean.  I read tons of homeschooling books when my children were little that said if you surround a child with books and read to them daily they will be reading Watership Down when they are 7.  Well, all 3 of my girls were late readers.  My oldest learned about 9 or so and when she finally did she took off with it.  I’m still waiting for that to happen with the younger two, who are 11 and 9 and are still learning.

    I agree with all those who said the facts need to be memorized. One way that has really helped my right brain thinker and me is to make the problems into a story with a picture and lots of color around it. Change the color of the numbers or make them into people/objects. Anything that will help them to picture the problem. There are programs out there that do this for you or you can just get your child involved, and have them come up with the story/picture. It is a lot of fun, and it really makes them stick, without a struggle.
