My youngest (dd 11) has not been a really great reader, but she it finally moving forward with it. She has been reading some easier chapter books that would probably be considered twaddle, but I’ve let it go a bit just to get her to read something in addition to her regular subjects.
So, tonight I asked her if I should hang onto the book from the Puppy Place series that she had started a few weeks ago or if she wanted to set it aside. She said “set it aside,” so I asked her if she really wanted to read it at all. Her response? “Well, it’s a bit too easy for me, and if I wanted to read as much as I should be reading in a day, I’d have to read all ten chapters in one day!”
I was so surprised to hear this, and later I mentioned that I wanted to finish reading Swallows and Amazons aloud to the family during the summer. Again, her response was, “I love Swallows and Amazons! I would take it and read ahead if I could find where you put it!”
This girl just spurs me on when I start to feel as though I’m inadequate as a homeschooling parent.
