I have read the post on 106 Days versus Apologia for K/1st and everyone seems to agree that Apologia is too much for a 5/6 year old. My dilemma is that my 6 year old is very into science and wants actual explanations of things. For instance, today he was asking what a germ is, how big it is, how it gets into our body and makes us sick, etc. So we went on youtube and he got distracted watching cartoon videos about germs. But I would have loved to have a resource I could pull out and describe to him in terms a first grader can understand!
So while I don’t want to get bogged down with something too much over his head (which Apologia probably is) I am also concerned that 106 Days of Creation or Outdoor Secrets will not be enough in-depth for him. Any suggestions? This is our first year homeschooling, btw.
What about getting library books about things he’s interested in to supplement? My daughter learned way more than I know about germs from The Magic School Bus books! We did Outdoor Secrets and companion for first grade. (I haven’t done 106 Days yet.) But we also read a lot of wonderful living books. And thrift stores usually have a lot of experiment-type books too for things he could do in his free time. And nature study! Have you seen the books from Shining Dawn Books? They are a wealth of nature study ideas I bet he would love!
