My children will be in 4th, 1st and K in the fall and I am working on the schedule.  I am wondering how many days per week some of you schedule certain subjects:

Family: Personal Development (Millers books), Foreign Language (we will start Latin and Sign Language), Geography

4th grader: Dictation, Handwriting/Copywork, Language Lessons, Typing

Well, according to the Planning your CM education, you would determine how much of your resources you want to cover in the year or term, then work out how often you need to do it to cover what you want……

    But for us…

We did Personal Development book once a week (we did Polite Moments), Foreign Language we did daily, and Geography was once a week. Copywork was also daily.  (once letters were learned, we did one day a scripture, one day a quote from a reading, one day practice a letter needing improvement, and I don’t remember the other day.   I guess I should add that we only schooled 4 days a week (Except math) to leave the 5th day as a “wild day” / nature study day.

    I haven’t had a 4th grader yet, so can’t mention the other subjects….

Thank you Suzukimom…I am also considering a 4 day week!

…anyone else want to chime in?

I have a gonna-be-third-grader, a preschooler and a baby.  We do Personal Development (and health) 1 day per week, haven’t started Foreign Language, but will probably do that daily when we do, and copywork daily.  As I have it planned this year, using the Joshua through Malachi handbook, we will “do” Geography once a week, but I plan on having our maps out for reference all the time; kind of like our pictures for picture study.

I have handiwork ‘instruction’ slated for twice a week, but hope to get into the habit of working on our projects pretty much nightly.

We end up having kind of a 4 1/2 day week as Thursdays are very light because that’s the day we do all of our “running” in the city.

I can’t comment on Dictation or Typing, as those aren’t things we’ve grown in to yet.

    Blessings,

I don’t know if this is helpful but….

when I use the Planning Your CM Ed planner, I do the schedule using the 15 min interval page (even though we don’t follow the time to a T) and title my days Day 1 to Day 5. I do this in order to acommadate sporatic long weekends, sick days, and Dad’s shift schedule. So we can drop a day at any time and pick up where we left off with out trying to do monday’s work back on a monday, KWIM? So we start school and do a week M-F which ends up being D1-D5. The next week say Dad has thursday off so it looks like this: (m) Day 1’s scedule, (t) Day 2, (w) Day 3, thursday we play with Dad, (f) Day 4, (the next monday) Day 5, (t) Day 1….

This has worked well to keep the lessons still going in order. And we could choose to do school on a saturday easy, just do the current Day # schedule.

I find the planner helps me figure out the best way to break up how many lessons per week and what to do daily. It is worth more than it’s weight in gold. It is worth all the figuring out and has changed my school days for the better!!!
