Ugh. I went to our library’s annual booksale this morning. Found some great finds. Apparently, I also left some great finds, too. I had Winston Churchill’s six volumes (hardback, mind you) of the Second World War in my basket. I decided to take them out at the last minute. They would have cost me $1 each.
$6 for this set.
Which is worth over $200–and is apparently some of the best writing about this period in history EVER.
YOU should kick yourself very hard… THough I’ve done that type of thing, too! However, if itmakes you feel any better, I looked on Amazon and found some excellent prices on used single volumes (and even some new around $5. plus s/h).
Scroll down and click on used/new and see what you can discover so you don’t leave anymore bruises on yourself and just consider it a good learning experience!
NO!!!!!!!!!!! Please say it isn’t SO!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don’t even have that set in my library!!! But yes…they can be had for a decent price but… It’s OK. While you’re kicking yourself, someone else is rejoicing.
I have an original set on my shelf that I got in the UK for a steal. They would have cost me about $20 at the time. I can say they are wonderful books and I have most everything Churchill has written, because he writes so eloquently. Never mind, keep looking and I am sure we have all had the odd gem slip from our fingers – so don’t feel too bad. There are reasonable copies out their, just check around, but anytime you see writing by Churchill for $1 – BUY IT!!
We picked up that set at a library book sale a couple years ago. I’ve actually seen them available at other sales since then.
Don’t feel bad. I once hesitated and lost an old book at a library book sale. It was a president’s autobiography signed by that president (don’t recall which one). I thought maybe the signature was printed in the book and not really signed. But when I got home and looked at some other aged signatures I became convinced that it was an actual signature.
Oh yes, please don’t feel badly. I’ve had to learn to ‘let go’ of those books I let get away and come back to where the real treasure is. Hope you are enjoying all your other great finds though.
