I just wanted to give praise and honor to our God. I feel that I have been given a gift. A gift of grace from our Lord Jesus Christ. Not only did He give dh and I the grace and understanding when He called us to homeschool but then He provides for us each and every year in mighty ways. It is amazing to me how intricatly involved God is in our everyday lives.
I feel that God has given me a gift this year in Homeschooling. Most of the resources I have purchased our non-consumable, multi-level, quality resources. I have 5 children (hopefully more) under the age of 8.5 so I will have many years to use these resources.
And it just dawned on me too that we are praying that DH will be able to leave his “real job” and come home to farm and homestead in the next several years so at that point finances will be even tighter..so we are able to buy the resources now (fat years) that will benefit us for years to come (lean years).
I’m just in awe of our God. And I am thanking Him for using all of you to help lead me in some of our choices i.e. All About Spelling combined with Spelling Wisdom, Math on the Level, All through the Ages, and of course all the other great resources from SCM. Not to mention all the great book suggestions, which is mostly what I spend money on this year.
Anyway, I just wanted to worship our God through writing this post. Now I am off to get ready to worship Him in corporate worship. May God bless you this day!!
Well, I haven’t started using them yet but this is how I plan to use them…
AAS for basic phonics instruction for all three kiddos: first book with oldest..then pass that down to the next and start on the second book with my oldest. I will use Spelling Wisdom as ds’s Monday copywork and then Wed. Dictation.
I am combining the two programs not because either of them are weak..but because I have seen some great need for phonics instruction for my dc..so I want to instruct them but not do wkbks. AAS gives them a good hands on approach to spelling phonetically but we can also reap the benefits of copywork, dictation and “seeing” a word with Spelling Wisdom.
I love how you started this post, your enthusiasm is so contagious! God is truly extraordinary in the ways He provides for us. Like you, we are stocking up on the foundational (primarily non-consumable) resources for our children’s educations during these “fat” years with a steady military income, knowing that for several years in the near future we will be in a voluntary season of “leanness” while beginning homesteading and learning the ins and outs of rural life. Thank you for sharing your heart here with us, it encourages me to know I have a sister in Christ who is already in KY! Blessings on your week!
Thank you for responding. We have used AAS but with 4 children it is just too much. It was taking forever to get through it all with them. So I am just going Spelling Wisdom and praying that the Lord will fill in the rest.
Yes, it will be a lot to try to do with my three dc but I am hopeful that since AAS is the only thing we do seperately that it will work well for our family…but who knows 🙂 God will lead and guide..so I don’t have to worry.
I hope you weren’t thinking I was trying to talk you out of it. I was just telling you why we weren’t doing it. I sure was hoping you had a way to make it simpler for our family. I love AAS but just cant make it work for us.
