I was just wondering how others of you use “A Child’s Book of Character Building?” I thought maybe I would copy one of the pictures and have the kids color it while I read the story, but I wanted to hear how others use it as well!
We used it in the following way to create our own notebook of character traits:
Day 1: Discuss the definition of the trait being studied. (For example: Attentiveness) Go over the Bible verse associated with it and make a page in our notebook with all that information included on it along with drawings or stickers that help us remember it better (our youngest is in charge of that part because she enjoys doing it). For example, for attentiveness: Listening with your eyes, ears and heart, she drew a picture of eyes, ears and put a heart sticker on for that part. Then we attach an index card with the Bible verse on it at the bottom of the page. Then we read the first story in that section.
Day 2: We review the definition and Bible verse, and while I read the next story our youngest colors a copy of the picture for that story (she’s the only one who enjoys coloring, so the others just listen). We do one of the suggestions at the back of the chapter.
Days 3-4 look the same as day 2.
Day 5: We review again and then put all of that week’s work and coloring pages in our 3 ring notebook.
In the notebook we also have a Prayer page at the front so we can write down prayer requests and praises. It helps them remember what we’ve prayed about and then see how the Lord answers.
We finished Book 1 last year and are working through book 2 right now. They enjoy going back to the notebook that we made and I like having it to be able to “review” when we seem to need encouragement in a certain area, like Obedience!
Have fun!
