I love this history program. I havn’t used any other curriculum, but this is just so nice, having the hsitory/bible/geography and being able to do things as a whole family. But it is so hard to fit in! I am dilligent about the bible portions, but the rest seems to go by the wayside and takes so long to do the rest (with interuptions from littles, narration, explaining things). Does anyone else struggle with this?

I”m thinking of splitting the history portion into 2 days and doubling with bible on at least one day, since we do bible every day anyway. Any thoughts appreciated.

Hi. My girls and I kept getting too engrossed with the Bible readings and ended up doubling up fairly often. The History worked for us by having me read to them (The Ancient Egypt and its Neighors book and the Boy of the Pyramids) during lunchtime (since I eat faster than them). The readings typically carried over from lunch to the sofa, and sometimes we also read more than what it said for one day (even now with ANcient Greece). If they were too roudy/ not sleepy I would read to them before bed. I’ll have to admit that I have enjoyed the reading and dialoguing with them so much that I didn’t mind putting other things (like some chores) aside or delegating them to my husband, LOL. (Oh, and since we dialogued so much, on the days that the manual scheduled “Catch up or Exam”, we just did one day for Q/A and then kept rolling). The manual lists 5 days for that at the end of each Term, so you CAN catch up. So, in other words, YOU ARE DOING GREAT! Keep it up 🙂

    Great attitude, thanks.

I’m trying to keep in mind that we are learning and whatever pace that is at is ok. It just hits me sometimes!

we also are doing ANC Egypt, we gave up schedules a long time ago. i have one child remaining at home and 6 out of home. i found that the ones out of home have had need of “mom” due to various medical or pregnancy related issues. i can only tell you I approach each day with” intentional schooling” and we get things done. so at times it means we may get history done 5x in the week etc… i do not school year round . we begin mid august and finish up end of may.

    hope this helps

What has worked for us with history is having my hubby do Ancient Egypt and Her Neighbors with the kids on the weekend or in the evening.  That way I can keep the littles busy so they’re not constantly distracting/interrupting… the kids focus much better without the littles in the room!
